Description |
Eagle with spread wings in relief, beneath eagle "For Distinguished Public Service", around rim, "Thomas Alva Edison, Inventor, World Benefactor, 1915". On reverse - classical female figure in flowing robes carrying torch and small winged victory. To left of figure "Founded New York, 1907". Around rim "The Civic Forum". On rim is engraved "Paul Manship Sculptor". 18K gold. Catalog Work Sheet Marks: text as above, Tiffany, copyright symbol, 18kt gold Round gold coin with two classical women holding a trophy-sized statue and a torch on the front; an eagle with full wing-spread on back. Sculpture is in medium-low relief, all letters of inscription are in low relief except for sculptor's name and Tiffany and Copyright symbol. Engraved gold is a little dull, especially in crevices, also has spots of dirt collected on the surface, especially on back. |
