Description |
The electric cap lamp is a battery powered lamp to be used by miners. The battery is enclosed in a self-locking case that would be worn on the miner's belt. The cord that connects the battery to the lamp is flexible rubber. The lamp was worn on the miner's cap. The battery lasted up to 12 hours and would typically be recharged at the end of the miner's shift. This lamp is the R4 model that has a cutaway showing the battery inside the case. This cap lamp was created as a way to electrically light mines without the need of accessive or dangerous wiring. It was designed as part of an initiative to improve working conditions and safety in mines. |
