Description |
Edison battery oil is a nonconductive oil that was added to the potassium based electrolyte in Edison nickel-iron batteries to reduce water loss from evaporation. Due to the high charge of the Edison nickel-iron battery, the battery would boil water out quickly without a film of oil on top of the electrolytic fluid. Edison primary batteries were widely used on railroads to energize track and signal circuits. |
