Description |
General Electric Space Heater, Type A-23 (Schenectady, N.Y.) c.1910-1920. Two-glower type luminous electric heater with two tubular frosted bulbs, metal frame and "legs", copper colored "bulb shield", and cloth electrical cord. The electric space heater was General Electric's attempt to replace the fireplace. Better known as the luminous electric radiator, GE produced them from 1903 until around 1920. They began with the mantel type and later introduced the portable 2-bulb type around 1910. By the early 1920s, however, luminous heaters were replaced by the radiant coil heaters. |
