Description |
In the 1920s, the Edicraft division of Thomas Alva Edison Inc. began making "electric servants" (a popular term for kitchen appliances at the time). Sales heavily declined during the great depression causing Edicraft to cease production in 1934. This was a high-end appliance marketed as a "speed toaster". This clamshell toaster toasted two sides of two slices of bread at once. Refered to as "clamshell" because the hinged heating pannels both open outward like a clamshell. It opened automatically when the toast was done. The toaster could be set to different heating settings with the sliding mechanism on the front. Edicraft Toaster, hinged heating panels opening outward, cloth covered cord attached. Source: Ward Harris Collection |
