Description |
This Edison Universal Shaving Machine is from about 1905. It was made of cast iron and about 14 inches across and 12 inches high, so it was difficult to transport because of its weight. In the early days of phonograph reproduction, a shaver was a popular item in order to make home recordings and then use the shaver to essentially "shave" an old recording off to make a new one. By the time that this shaver was produced, people were more interested in playing pre-recorded cylinders and didn't care to make recordings at home because of the difficulty of using a shaver. |
